Enyimba FC have emerged champions of the 7th edition of the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament after edging Rangers Intl FC 1-0 in a tense final at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The encounter between the two NPFL giants was fiercely contested from the outset. Both sides created promising chances in the first half, but the deadlock remained unbroken at the interval.

The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute when Pere Anderson found the net for Enyimba, sparking celebrations among the travelling fans. Rangers pushed for an equaliser, coming close in the 75th minute, but Enyimba’s defence stood firm.

A threatening attacking move from the hosts in the 80th minute, orchestrated by captain Chidiebere Nwobodo, was cut short by a timely clearance from Mohammed Husseini, ensuring the People’s Elephant held on to their narrow lead.
Captain Joseph Atule expressed his delight after the final whistle, noting that the victory represents an excellent start to the season for the team. He emphasised that the triumph reflects the squad’s determination, growth and unity.
The win gives Enyimba a significant morale boost as they prepare for the challenges ahead in the new campaign.
