Nasarawa United have advanced to the semi-finals of the Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Football Tournament after a 1-0 victory over defending champions Lobi Stars at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.
The North Central Zonal derby, the fourth meeting between the two teams in less than a year, was closely contested. Both sides created chances, but the breakthrough came in the 72nd minute when substitute Ajibade Olawale capitalised on a rebound to score for the Solid Miners.
Lobi Stars pressed for an equaliser, but the well-organised defence of Mangut Mbwas’ side held firm. The win avenged Nasarawa United’s defeat to Lobi in the 2024 edition of the tournament held in Jos, Plateau State.
Midfielder Abiodun Omolaoye was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Nasarawa United will face the winners of Wednesday’s fixture between FC Basira and Plateau United in the semi-final, scheduled for 13 August 2025 at the Lafia City Stadium.
