Enyimba FC delivered a spirited performance to earn a goalless draw against Barau FC on matchday one of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in front of more than 16,000 spectators.
Goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunda was the standout performer, producing a man-of-the-match display to keep the home side at bay. However, the result was a collective effort, with the entire team showing resilience and determination.
At the back, defenders Mohammed Hussaini, Pascal Eze, and Peter Afolayan stood firm, commanding the defence with composure and leadership. Their disciplined performance ensured that Barau found few clear chances throughout the encounter.
In midfield, Chinedu Ufere, Salaman Mohammed, and Bright Amadi provided a blend of control and aggression, winning key battles and maintaining possession in crucial phases. Their presence was pivotal in keeping Enyimba competitive in the centre of the park.
The attacking midfield pair of Quadri Olasunkani and Issah Mohammed consistently troubled the Barau defence with their creativity and dynamic movement, driving several attacking moves that tested the hosts.
Up front, the trio of Bassey John, Edidiong Ezekiel, and Atule Joseph – who was replaced by Mojeeb Odefeso after an early injury – worked tirelessly, creating space and linking play effectively. Their defensive contributions, particularly during set pieces, also proved valuable.
Despite finishing the game with 10 men after a late red card and having no substitutions available, Enyimba showed grit to hold on for a valuable point away from home.
This resilient display sets a positive tone for the People’s Elephant as they aim for a strong NPFL campaign.
