The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has officially lifted the suspension placed on goalkeeper Sunday Adewale Adeyinka, clearing him to register with any club of his choice.
In a letter signed by NPFL Chief Operating Officer Davidson Owumi, the league expressed appreciation to Adeyinka for honouring the invitation to attend the inquest into his alleged involvement in betting activities during the 2024/2025 season.
The letter confirmed that, while the investigation into the matter will continue, Adeyinka’s registration ban has been lifted “for the benefit of fair hearing and not to put [his] career in jeopardy.”
Adeyinka was initially suspended on 5 August 2025 following claims by Plateau United FC that he had engaged in betting activities. The decision, according to the NPFL, was also influenced by the goalkeeper’s refusal to sign a contract with Shooting Star FC that contained a clause permitting immediate termination in the event of betting implications.
Reacting to the allegations earlier this month, Adeyinka denied any wrongdoing and called for a transparent hearing involving all relevant parties, including Plateau United FC, Shooting Star FC, and Sunshine FC. He maintained that his decisions were based on ensuring fairness and clarity in his contractual obligations.
With the suspension now lifted, Adeyinka is free to explore new opportunities and continue his professional career while the NPFL carries on with its wider investigation into the case.
