The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has confirmed the immediate return of the NWFL Nationwide for the 2025 calendar season, marking its first campaign since 2023.
The competition, which serves as the third tier of women’s football in Nigeria, was last staged in 2023 before being replaced in 2024 by the now-suspended States League.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, announced the reinstatement on Tuesday, attributing it to the recommendation and approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership.
“The reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide is a significant step towards strengthening the women’s football pyramid in Nigeria, hugely thanks to President Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board,” Shabi said.
“As the third tier, it plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talent, giving more grassroots clubs and players the opportunity to compete, grow, and aspire to higher levels of the game.”
Registration for interested clubs opens on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, and closes on 26 September 2025. All entries must be submitted to operations@thenwfl.com, with no late applications accepted.
The 2025 NWFL Nationwide will take place from 3 to 12 October, with the host venue to be announced in due course.
