KMK Foundation Academy made an emphatic start to their Tico/Select campaign with a 5–0 thrashing of Excellent FA, thanks to a stunning four-goal performance from Utipime Sunday.
The match, played on Saturday, saw Utipime Sunday announce his intent from the outset, opening the scoring in the 6th minute with a well-placed header after latching onto a pinpoint cross from midfield. KMK controlled possession throughout the half, and Utipime added two more goals in quick succession, striking in the 39th and 44th minutes to complete a first-half hat-trick.
Excellent FA, nicknamed the Ughelli Boys, struggled to match the intensity of the Uyo-based side. Despite a few key saves from their goalkeeper, they found themselves overwhelmed by KMK’s relentless attacking pressure.
The second half offered no respite for the Delta State club. In the 62nd minute, Utipime Sunday netted his fourth goal of the game, finishing off a fine pass from Saviour Edet to extend KMK’s lead to 4–0. The final goal came in the 86th minute, when Igwe Friday raced through the Excellent FA defence and calmly slotted past the keeper to complete the rout.
Reacting after the match, Utipime expressed delight at his performance, saying, “I’m happy to get four goals in our first game. I’ll keep working hard to score more in the tournament.”
Coach Mark West praised his team’s display, attributing the victory to the hard work put in during training. “The boys were prepared mentally and physically, and it showed today,” he said.
KMK’s resounding victory sets the tone for what could be a promising tournament. They return to action on Sunday morning against Inter FC Aba, with expectations high for another strong performance.
With Utipime Sunday in top form, fans and opponents alike will be watching closely as KMK Foundation Academy continue their quest for glory in the Tico/Select tournament.
