Coach Stanley Eguma masterminded Enyimba’s first away league win of the season as the People’s Elephant defeated Bayelsa United 2–0 in Yenagoa.
After being held at home by Nasarawa United last weekend, Eguma’s men approached the tie with intensity, creating several chances in the first half but failing to convert.
The breakthrough came in the second half following key substitutions by Eguma. A precise cross from Solomon Ogberaghwe was met by substitute Chidera Michael, who glanced the ball into the net for his first NPFL goal. Moments later, stand-in captain Kalu Nweke sealed the victory with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Eguma praised his side’s resolve, noting that the disappointment at home had motivated the players.
“After the draw in Aba, we knew we had to come here for maximum points,” Eguma said. “We dominated from start to finish, missed chances in the first half, but the boys showed commitment and executed the plan perfectly.”
He also commended Bayelsa United for their effort, acknowledging that the hosts created opportunities of their own but insisting his team were deserved winners.
Nweke, whose long-range effort doubled Enyimba’s lead, said his strike was a product of training ground preparation. “The coach encourages us to take shots from distance. I tried it today and I’m glad it went in,” he said.
Enyimba now shift focus to their next NPFL fixture, a home clash against Bendel Insurance at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba on Sunday.
