Liman Fires Lobi Stars to Preseason Win Over Basira FC

Lobi Stars continued their strong preseason form with a 1-0 victory against Basira FC of Lafia in a friendly match at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday, 10 September 2025.

The Pride of Benue dominated from the outset, with Nazir Mohammed nearly opening the scoring in the 13th minute when his powerful effort from distance was tipped away for a corner.

Basira’s task became harder in the 20th minute after Richard Teryila received a second yellow card for a rash challenge on Ahmadu Liman, leaving the visitors with ten men.

Despite sustained pressure from the home side, including attacking runs from Valentine Egiga and creative play from Suur Kumaga, Bidemi Owoku and Liman, the first half ended goalless.

Head coach Abubarka Bala made changes at the break, and the breakthrough came in the 61st minute. Azeez Tijani’s strike was parried by the goalkeeper, but Liman reacted quickest to slot home the rebound.

Lobi Stars continued to press but were unable to extend their lead before the final whistle confirmed their win.

After the match, Bala expressed satisfaction with his team’s progress.
“We’re not just building a team, we’re shaping an identity. The boys showed hunger, tactical discipline, and unity. With more of these tests, we’ll be ready to fire when the season kicks off,” he said.

The result marked another positive step in Lobi Stars’ preparations ahead of the new campaign.
