Wikki Tourists endured a frustrating evening as they fell 1-0 to Katsina United in an NPFL Matchday 5 clash at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on 22 September.
The decisive moment came in the 18th minute when Katsina United captain Usman Barau rose highest to head home from a corner kick. Despite dominating possession and creating several chances through Lewis Dadong and Ahmed Lamido, Wikki Tourists were unable to make their pressure count, with poor finishing and misfortune keeping them off the scoresheet.
Katsina United adopted a defensive approach in the closing stages, absorbing waves of attacks from the visitors while threatening on the counter.
Speaking after the game, Wikki Tourists head coach Abdul Maikaba admitted that missed opportunities proved costly.
“We created chances enough to win the game but couldn’t convert,” Maikaba said. “It’s something we have to address immediately before our next game.”
The defeat leaves Wikki Tourists with seven points from five matches, as they continue to search for consistency in their campaign. Attention now turns to a crucial home fixture against Rangers International next weekend, where the Tourists will look to respond positively in front of their fans.
