Kwara United head coach Tunde Sanni remains confident that his side will overturn their first-leg defeat when they host Asante Kotoko in the return fixture of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round this weekend.
The Harmony Boys suffered a 4–3 loss to the Ghanaian giants at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, but Sanni believes the second leg in Nigeria will be a different story.
“Our assumption is not what we met. They are a bit luckier today, that’s it. They are a bit luckier, but they are coming to meet us at home,” the coach told reporters after the game.
Kwara United showed resilience in Ghana, with Johnmark Aule scoring twice and Shola Abdulraheem adding another late goal to keep the tie alive. Despite defensive lapses that allowed Kotoko to strike four times, the Nigerian side displayed fighting spirit that has boosted their belief ahead of the decisive clash.
Sanni praised his players’ discipline and composure under pressure and said the team has learnt valuable lessons from the first leg. A 1–0 win in the return match would be enough to see Kwara United advance to the next round of the competition.
The crucial second leg will take place on Sunday at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, where the Harmony Boys will be banking on home support to complete the job.
