NPFL26: Bayelsa United Suffers First League Defeat

Bayelsa United on Sunday suffered their first defeat away to Niger Tornadoes in a matchday three fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), decided at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.

The Prosperity Boys went into the encounter in high spirits, having recorded two consecutive wins against Shooting Stars of Ibadan and newly promoted Barau FC of Kano in the ongoing campaign.

Ismaila Sarki broke the deadlock in the 27th minute from Abba Khalid’s cross to give the hosts the lead in an electrifying atmosphere at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, having dominated the proceedings.

After a struggling start, the visitors came into the game as they created scoring opportunities, with Nneoyi Ofem and Wisdom Magbisa coming close but unable to find the back of the net.

The defeat leaves the Prosperity Boys in third position on the log with six points, while Tornadoes move from 10th to 6th place after their victory. Bayelsa United will next face Enyimba Int’l FC this weekend at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

Despite the defeat, Technical Adviser of Bayelsa United, Monday Odigie, believes that the team gave a good account of themselves, stating that the mistakes would be corrected in the next fixture.
