Abiodun Rallies Enyimba Fans Ahead of Southern Derby Showdown with Rivers United

Enyimba FC winger Joseph Abiodun has called on supporters to rally behind the team ahead of Sunday’s NPFL Matchday 7 clash with Rivers United at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Both teams remain unbeaten this season, with the encounter already dubbed the “Southern Derby of Fire.” Abiodun, who has scored twice this campaign, believes the fans’ presence could make the difference in a fixture that has historically produced high drama.

“We know Sunday won’t be easy, but we’re fully prepared to grab all three points,” Abiodun told Enyimba Media. “Our fans have been incredible, and I want to urge them to come out in full force. Their energy pushes us to give everything for the badge.”

The forward also expressed his ambition to fire Enyimba back to continental prominence. “My dream is to score more goals and help the club reclaim our place among Africa’s best. We’re challenging seriously for the league this season, and I must thank the management for their support and belief.”

Sunday’s contest will mark the 23rd meeting between the two sides. Enyimba lead the head-to-head with 12 victories compared to Rivers United’s 9, while 7 matches have ended in draws.

The People’s Elephant will, however, be without Bright Emmanuel and Mujeeb Odufeso, both injured in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Ikorodu City.

Victory in Aba would strengthen Enyimba’s push for the league title and send a strong message to their rivals, as Abiodun and his teammates aim to turn the stadium into a fortress once again.
