The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a stern warning to all participating clubs over the improper behaviour of ball boys during matchdays.
In a circular dated 14th October 2025 and signed by the Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, the NPFL expressed concern over the growing trend of ball boys deliberately hiding match balls to waste time, often in favour of the home team.
The letter described the act as unscrupulous and a breach of league rules, stressing that such conduct will no longer be tolerated. The NPFL categorised the offence as misconduct, punishable under Section C of the league’s frameworks and rules.
According to the directive, clubs must ensure that at least ten balls are available for use throughout every NPFL fixture. Any team found guilty of encouraging or condoning the misconduct will face a fine of ₦1,000,000.
Owumi urged clubs to call their ball boys to order, noting that the NPFL Board remains committed to upholding the integrity and fairness of the league.
The circular was also copied to all concerned State Football Associations for immediate compliance.
