Akwa United Boss Sets Clear Target as Promotion Push Begins

Akwa United head coach Paul Offor has set a firm objective for the new season, declaring that the club is fully focused on securing a return to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

Offor, who previously managed Sporting Lagos in the top flight, will guide the 2021 NPFL champions and two time Federation Cup winners through their Nigeria National League campaign following their relegation last term.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Offor expressed confidence in the squad assembled for the season.

He said he was impressed with the players’ commitment, adding that months of screening and friendly matches had helped the technical crew select a team capable of representing the club with pride. He stressed that the team had established a clear playing pattern and were ready for their season opener against Solution FC.

Offor reaffirmed that the mission for the season is straightforward. He said the team must fight to restore Akwa United’s NPFL status. According to him, both players and coaches understand the challenge ahead and are prepared to give everything to achieve their promotion goal.

He also called on fans to rally behind the team, noting that their support plays a crucial role in motivating the players.

Akwa United were crowned NPFL champions in 2021 and won the President Federation Cup in 2015 and 2017. Following their relegation, the club underwent a restructuring process which brought Offor in as head coach. Joseph Eno now serves as chairman, while Ubong Essien leads the team as captain.

Akwa United will compete in Conference B and begin their NNL campaign on Sunday, 16 November, when they host Solution FC at the Uyo Township Stadium.
