After three straight defeats, Enyimba FC finally rediscovered their rhythm with a solid 2–0 victory over rivals Kano Pillars in a heated NPFL Matchday 11 clash at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
The People’s Elephant came out with purpose and intensity, thrilling the Aba faithful with a dominant first-half display. John Bassey ended his goal drought in the 29th minute, heading in Ufere Chinedu’s precise cross to give Enyimba the lead. Minutes later, Edidiong Ezekiel doubled the advantage, calmly rounding the Pillars goalkeeper after a fine assist from Bassey to make it 2–0 before the break.

The second half saw the hosts defend resolutely, soaking up pressure while maintaining composure. Goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunga and defender Fabian Nwaorie combined brilliantly to pull off a stunning double save that ensured Enyimba’s clean sheet remained untouched.
A delighted Coach Stanley Eguma hailed his side’s character and determination after the much-needed win.
“I’m very happy. This is what we expected from the boys. The team’s spirit was low after three losses, but they showed great character today. This victory will surely bring back confidence,” Eguma said.
Speaking on Bassey’s goal, the gaffer added:
“We were patient with him, and now that he’s broken the jinx, we hope he continues scoring.”
Looking ahead to next weekend’s fiery Abia Derby against Abia Warriors, Eguma promised a strong display from his men.
“It’s always fierce when we meet Abia Warriors. They’re a good side, but this win gives us confidence to fight harder and avoid dropping points away again.”
The victory lifts Enyimba to sixth on the NPFL table with 16 points, while Kano Pillars remain stuck at the bottom.
Next stop for the People’s Elephant is Umuahia — confidence restored, spirit rekindled, and eyes firmly set on another win.
