Niger Tornadoes head coach Majin Mohammed has applauded the hunger and resilience shown by his players after their 1–0 victory over defending champions Remo Stars in Minna on Saturday.
The Ikon Allah Boys made a bright start at the Bako Kontagora Stadium as Clinton Jephta struck early, reacting swiftly to a loose ball in the box to score his first goal since returning to the club. The early breakthrough proved decisive.
With Terdoo Shimagande unavailable, Sarki Ismaila led the line alongside Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai, whose pace troubled the visitors although Tornadoes were unable to extend their lead.
Remo Stars increased the pressure after the interval, pushing for an equaliser. However, the Tornadoes defence, marshalled by Sunday Akinmoladun and Ezeifule Chibueze, stayed organised and repelled every attack.
After the match, Majin Mohammed commended his players for their determination and discipline. He emphasised that beating last season’s champions was a significant achievement and stated that the team will travel to Kwara United with the same mindset that earned them victory in Ilorin last season.
