Nasarawa United Back on Top with Commanding Home Victory

Nasarawa United reclaimed first place in the Nigeria Premier Football League after a convincing 3-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday.

Last season’s leading scorer, Anas Yusuf, put the hosts ahead from the penalty spot in the 38th minute. He doubled the advantage immediately after the break, capitalising on a defensive slip to score his sixth league goal of the campaign.

Teenager Garba Mohammed sealed the points with a composed finish, his third of the season, as the Solid Miners moved to 27 points from 14 matches. The victory places them three points clear of second-placed Ikorodu City, who still have a game in hand.

Nasarawa United travel to Ozoro next weekend for a meeting with eighth-placed Warri Wolves.

Post-match Reactions

Technical adviser Mangut Mbwas praised his side’s approach, saying the game plan produced the desired result. He acknowledged El-Kanemi’s effort but noted that his team executed better in key moments.

El-Kanemi Warriors coach Kabiru Dogo admitted Nasarawa United deserved the win and pointed to costly errors as the difference. He stressed that the league is still long and called for improvements from his players.

Two-goal hero Anas Yusuf expressed delight with his brace and reaffirmed his commitment to helping Nasarawa United fight for the league title and a continental ticket.
