Sokoto United were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against City FC of Abuja in a lively and hard-fought Nigeria National League Matchday Two encounter at the Giginya Memorial Stadium.
City FC made an early statement when Joseph Volder lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper after connecting with a measured cross from Ozor Franklin in the eighth minute.

Sokoto United responded with authority, dominating possession and creating clear chances. The hosts were denied three times by the woodwork, while the City FC goalkeeper produced several vital saves to maintain the visitors’ lead at the break.
The home side returned for the second half with renewed determination. Their persistence paid off when substitute Suleiman Baban, introduced for the injured Muhsin Attahiru, fired a well-struck free-kick into the net to restore parity and lift the home supporters.
Sokoto United pressed for a winner as momentum shifted in their favour, but City FC held firm. Strong defending and another composed goalkeeping display ensured both teams shared the points.
The draw leaves Sokoto United still searching for their first win of the campaign after a narrow loss to ABS FC in Ilorin. City FC also remain winless following their opening defeat to Lobi Stars.
Sokoto United’s attention now turns to their next test against Basira FC of Nasarawa State on 29 November at the Lafia City Stadium.
