Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle says he is pleased with the steady progress his squad is making as they continue to adapt to his tactical ideas ahead of the World Cup playoff final.
Nigeria showed impressive resilience and discipline in extra time to defeat a determined Gabon side and secure their place in the decisive final stage of the playoffs.
Speaking after the match, Chelle stressed that establishing a clear team identity has been his priority since taking over the national team.
He said, “Like I said, the most important thing is for our team to create an identity. The identity is how we play in defence and how we play in offence.”
Chelle also highlighted the importance of consistent improvement and applauded his players for their growing understanding and strong mentality.
“This is why we try every time to improve at every FIFA window. Now these guys are improving mentally and technically, and they understand what I want to do for them,” he added.
The Super Eagles now turn their attention to the decisive playoff final, where they hope to take one more step towards securing their place at the World Cup.
