Nigeria’s Super Eagles vice-captain William Troost-Ekong has shared what happened within the squad moments after Victor Osimhen missed a golden chance to seal victory against Gabon.
Osimhen squandered a one-on-one opportunity in the final seconds of regulation time, leaving fans stunned as what seemed like a certain winner slipped away.
Speaking to ESPN Africa after the match, Ekong explained that the team immediately rallied around the Galatasaray striker, reminding him to remain focused and not dwell on the moment.
“When I saw him running at the goalkeeper, I was sure he was going to score,” Ekong said.
“But after that moment, we encouraged him and made sure he wasn’t disheartened.”
Ekong added that the unity and belief within the team proved decisive, as the Super Eagles regrouped, secured victory in extra time and booked their place in the playoff final.
