The Confederation of African Football has issued disciplinary sanctions against several clubs following crowd-related incidents in recent continental fixtures.
Espérance de Tunis have been fined $15,000 after their supporters were found guilty of using flares during their CAF Champions League encounter against Stade Malien. The incident occurred during the match, prompting CAF to apply its regulations on stadium safety and supporter conduct.
Algerian giants JS Kabylie were hit with multiple fines after their clash with Young Africans, resulting in a significant disciplinary bill. CAF fined the club $5,000 for the use of flares by supporters and $10,000 for the use of lasers from the stands. An additional $10,000 fine was imposed for players’ misconduct and protests against refereeing decisions, while another $10,000 was handed down for throwing water bottles from the stands.
The cumulative sanctions underline CAF’s firm stance on maintaining discipline and order across its competitions.
Meanwhile, Moroccan side Wydad Athletic Club were fined $10,000 following their CAF Confederation Cup fixture against Azam FC. CAF found Wydad supporters guilty of using flares and lasers during the match.
CAF has reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict stadium safety and crowd control regulations as the continental competitions progress.
