The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the full qualification format for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, outlining a clear path for teams aiming to reach the expanded 24-nation finals.
Thirteen group winners will qualify directly for the tournament. They join the three co-hosts Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, who gain automatic entry. This brings the number of confirmed finalists to 16.
CAF has also approved a play-off system for the remaining spots. The three best runners-up across all groups will qualify automatically, while the other ten second-placed teams will enter a two-pot draw based on their rankings. These teams will compete in two-legged knockout ties.
The five winners of the play-off matches will take the final places, completing the 24-team lineup for AFCON 2027.
