Osun United secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against First Bank FC of Lagos in week three of the 2025/2026 Nigeria National League at the Lanreleke Sports Complex in Ileogbo.
In his first official match as head coach, Akin Onigbinde made two changes to the starting line-up from the previous game in Awka, and the adjustments paid off. Osun United dominated possession and created several chances. They took the lead through a penalty, converted by Samuel Udoh after Balogun Idris was fouled inside the box.
First Bank FC responded to equalise, but Osun’s defence, marshalled by Solomon Boyo, remained resolute. Just before half-time, teenage winger Tomiwa Awojobi capitalised on an error by First Bank’s goalkeeper Lateef Nurudeen to restore Osun’s lead, tapping in a loose ball to make it 2-0.
The visitors pressed for an equaliser in the second half, and although they scored a consolation goal late on, Osun United’s goalkeeper Idris Titioso made several crucial saves to secure the win.
Despite the victory, Coach Onigbinde was far from satisfied. He acknowledged the importance of the three points but highlighted the need to address persistent mistakes. “We will regroup and take on our next challenge. The boys are gradually coming up, judging by the results. That is a sign of positive things to come,” he said. “We hope to make our fans smile and justify the confidence they had in us. We shall prepare better for the next assignment and work for positive outcomes.”
