AFCON 2025: Alebiosu stays with Super Eagles despite injury concern

Ryan Alebiosu will remain with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations despite concerns over an injury sustained during the group stage.

The Blackburn Rovers defender picked up the knock in Nigeria’s final group match against Uganda. Alebiosu completed the full 90 minutes in the encounter despite showing signs of discomfort.

The 22-year-old underwent a scan on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury. Initial reports suggested he could be sidelined for up to a month, raising fears that his tournament was over.

However, Blackburn Xtra reports that Alebiosu is expected to be out for only a couple of weeks. The revised timeline leaves open the possibility of the right-back featuring later in the competition, depending on how far Nigeria progress.

Eric Chelle’s side will face Mozambique in the Round of 16 next Monday as they continue their quest for continental glory in Morocco.
