Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has revealed plans to refresh Nigeria’s national team squad if the Nigeria Football Federation decides to retain him after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Chelle guided Nigeria to the semi-finals of the tournament before the Super Eagles suffered a defeat to host nation Morocco. The team will now face Egypt on Saturday evening in the third-place playoff.
The Malian tactician, who was appointed in January 2025, said his focus is on building a stronger and more competitive squad capable of challenging any opponent.
Speaking during his pre-match interview, Chelle made it clear that new faces would be introduced if he continues in the role beyond the tournament.
“If God gives me the chance to be the coach after this tournament, I’ve to bring some players,” Chelle said.
“My dream is to have twenty-two players, and all of them can take on the opposition. There is a lot of work to achieve that.”
Chelle’s comments suggest a long-term vision centred on depth, competition and squad balance as Nigeria looks ahead to future international engagements.
