Enyimba Legends Name Nwankwo Kanu as Club Patron in Emotional Ceremony

Enyimba FC Legends honoured one of their own on Wednesday, January 8, 2026, by officially naming Ambassador Nwankwo Kanu as their Patron.

The ceremony took place at the Enyimba International Stadium, also known as Elephant Park, where former players gathered to pay tribute to the legendary striker and current Chairman of Enyimba FC.

Led by Emeka Ifejiagwa, former Super Eagles defender and Sporting Director of Abia Warriors, the Enyimba Legends welcomed Kanu into his new role. Ifejiagwa confirmed that Kanu would also be the Special Guest at their upcoming novelty match on Monday, January 12, at the same stadium.

Plans are in place to present Kanu with a Special Award that evening at Terminus Hotel, Aba, recognising his outstanding contributions to football development in Abia State and Nigeria.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the Enyimba Legends jersey to Kanu, followed by a group photograph capturing a historic gathering of club greats.

Among those present were Emeka Ifejiagwa, Obinna Nwanneri, Uche Okechukwu, King Joe-Akuma, Chidozie Johnson, Ikechi Okoro, Emeka Obi, Coach Nkuruma, Paul Arua, and Ike Mba.

The occasion reaffirmed Kanu’s legacy not only as a global football icon but also as a visionary leader inspiring generations within Enyimba and Nigerian football.
