European clubs react as Super Eagles knock Algeria out of AFCON

Two European clubs, Sevilla and Besiktas, have reacted to Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles sealed their place in the semi-finals on Saturday after goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams ended Algeria’s campaign.

Following the result, Besiktas congratulated Wilfred Ndidi and the Nigerian team for their progress at the tournament. The Turkish club, where Ndidi plays his club football, praised the midfielder and wished Nigeria well ahead of the next round.

“We congratulate our footballer Wilfred Ndidi and his country Nigeria for advancing to the semi-finals by defeating Algeria 2-0 in the Africa Cup of Nations,” Besiktas wrote on X.

“Good luck on the road to the final, Ndidi.”

Spanish side Sevilla also reacted to the victory after their forward Akor Adams found the net for Nigeria. The La Liga club posted “AKORRRRRRR,” alongside a fist bump emoji to celebrate the striker’s goal.

Nigeria will now face tournament hosts Morocco in the semi-final, scheduled to take place in the coming days.

Morocco booked their place in the last four after a 2-0 win over Cameroon in their own quarter-final clash on Friday.
