Remo Stars have been charged by the Nigeria Premier Football League for breaching the NPFL Framework and Rules following crowd disturbances during their Matchday 20 fixture against Ikorodu City.
The incident occurred on January 14, 2026, during the champions’ home game, where inadequate security arrangements led to a brawl involving supporters of both clubs.
According to the NPFL, the failure to provide effective security resulted in injuries to Ikorodu City supporters and damage to vehicles belonging to the away team.
The league body also accused Remo Stars of failing to ensure proper conduct among their supporters, which led to the harassment and intimidation of match officials.
Supporters of the club were further charged with throwing objects onto the pitch, causing several stoppages during the encounter.
In addition, the NPFL described the behaviour of some Remo Stars fans as unacceptable after dangerous objects and weapons were reportedly brought into the stadium, an act capable of bringing the game into disrepute.
As a result, Remo Stars have been fined a total of N7 million. The breakdown includes N2 million for failing to provide adequate security, N1 million for throwing objects onto the pitch, N1 million for improper conduct of supporters, and another N1 million for misconduct capable of bringing the league into disrepute.
A further N2 million fine has been imposed as compensatory cost for damages to the Ikorodu City team bus and injuries sustained by their supporters.
The NPFL also ruled that Remo Stars will play their remaining home matches for the season at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, following the incident at their Ikenne ground.
The club has been given 48 hours from the date of notification to appeal the sanctions.
