NWFL Suspends 2025–26 Season After Matchday Seven

The Nigeria Women Football League has placed the 2025–26 NWFL Premiership season on hold following the conclusion of Matchday Seven fixtures.

In an official circular dated 20 January 2026, the league confirmed that the decision was taken after a formal complaint was submitted to the Nigeria Football Federation by one of the participating clubs.

According to the statement, the affected club currently has more than five players called up to the Nigeria U-20 national team camp, a situation the club said had significantly reduced its ability to field a competitive squad during the ongoing fixtures.

As a result, the NWFL management approved a temporary suspension of league activities to address competitive balance concerns.

The league confirmed that the 2025–26 NWFL Premiership will resume with Matchday Eight fixtures on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

The statement also revealed that due to time constraints within the season calendar, only a one-week mid-season break will be observed.

Adjusted fixtures reflecting the revised schedule have been circulated to all participating clubs, with the league urging strict compliance.

The circular was signed by NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi.
