Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has called on his players to manage emotions and embrace the pressure of playing at home ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against Senegal.
Speaking at the pre-final press conference, Regragui said hosting the continental showpiece was a source of pride for the Atlas Lions, while admitting the occasion comes with added responsibility.
“We are delighted to host the Africa Cup of Nations final on our soil,” Regragui said. “It will be a tough match between two of the best teams in Africa and the world. We must control our emotions from the start, as there is pressure playing at home.”
Morocco face a familiar opponent in Senegal, a side Regragui described as confident, consistent and often burdened by expectations.
“Senegal is a familiar opponent. They are confident, consistent and often heavily criticised because they are expected to win. We respect that,” he added.
Regragui stressed that Sunday’s final goes beyond the pursuit of a single trophy, describing it as part of a long-term vision for Moroccan football.
“This final is not just about winning today. It is about building a legacy,” he said. “Morocco, like Senegal, has only played three finals. Our goal is to win and keep competing at the highest level in future tournaments.”
The former Wydad Casablanca coach noted the fine margins between both teams, pointing to their closely matched head-to-head record.
“The odds are almost equal. Our record against Senegal is 51 per cent,” Regragui said. “We must manage the pressure, stay positive and give our best. If we do not lift the trophy tomorrow, we will have another chance in the future.”
