Mamelodi Sundowns and Al-Hilal Omdurman played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Group C encounter at Loftus Versfeld on Friday night.
The result keeps both sides firmly in the hunt for qualification after a match that swung in momentum and intensity.
Sundowns began on the front foot but were punished in the 15th minute when Omer Abdelrazig ghosted in unmarked at the near post to head home, capitalising on a rare lapse from the hosts.
The response was immediate. Five minutes later, Arthur Sales restored parity with a composed finish from close range after Nuno Santos switched play to stretch the Al-Hilal defence.
The game settled into a tactical contest as the first half progressed. Sundowns dominated possession but found space limited by a disciplined Al-Hilal setup. The visitors were forced into an early change when Ousmane Diouf was withdrawn through injury.
The hosts took the lead midway through the second half through a well-worked short corner. Teboho Mokoena was teed up on the edge of the area and unleashed a powerful strike into the near corner.
That advantage lasted just six minutes. Abdelrazig struck for the second time, sliding in to convert a low cross and bring Al-Hilal level once more.
Al-Hilal finished the match with ten men after Emmanuel Flommo was shown a red card late on, but Sundowns were unable to find a decisive goal as the contest ended all square.
