Trezeguet Double Sends Al Ahly Top of Group B

Al Ahly climbed to the summit of Group B in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet scored twice to seal a 2-0 win over Young Africans of Tanzania on Friday night.

The Egyptian champions were clinical at Borg El Arab Stadium, converting their key moments to maintain an unbeaten run in the group stage and move clear at the top.

Young Africans showed early confidence and caused problems through Allan Onkell, launching swift counter-attacks that unsettled the hosts. Goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir was forced into action within the opening 15 minutes, producing a sharp save before Yasser Ibrahim cleared the danger.

Despite controlling possession, Al Ahly found it difficult to break through a disciplined Young Africans defence. The breakthrough eventually came in first-half stoppage time. Mohamed Hany delivered a precise cross from the right and Trezeguet rose to glance a header that slipped under the goalkeeper’s hand.

The visitors continued to threaten after the interval and nearly drew level when a low strike tested Shobeir, who reacted quickly to keep Al Ahly in front.

Al Ahly gradually took command and doubled their advantage in the 75th minute. Trezeguet received the ball inside the box, shifted onto his right foot and drove a powerful finish into the net to complete his brace.

Young Africans pushed late on and went close to reducing the deficit, but Shobeir produced another fine save. Al Ahly also missed opportunities to extend their lead before the final whistle.

The victory takes Al Ahly to seven points from three matches at the top of Group B. Young Africans remain second with four points as the group stage heads towards a decisive period.
