Mairiga rallies Wikki Tourists ahead of Bayelsa United clash as injuries bite

Wikki Tourists forward Jonathan Mairiga has vowed the team will give everything when they face Bayelsa United in a crucial NPFL Matchday 34 fixture in Yenagoa.

Speaking after the club’s final training session at the Samson Siasia Stadium, the striker expressed confidence in the squad’s readiness despite their difficult position on the table.

Mairiga, who has scored nine goals this season, said the team remains focused on securing a positive result as the campaign nears its climax.

“We understand the situation we’re in, but we are not giving up. We are going into this match with determination, focus and the belief that we can turn things around,” he told Wikki media.

He also urged supporters to continue backing the team with prayers and encouragement ahead of the decisive encounter.

Wikki Tourists will, however, be without several key players. Attacking midfielder Nasiru Jibrin remains sidelined with a knee injury, while Klingshak Longbak is unavailable after suffering a fever following the last outing against Enyimba.

First-choice goalkeeper Utum Godswill is suspended after a red card in the previous match. Defender Haruna Aliyu and attackers Usman Abdullahi and Ibrahim Shuaibu are also out with injuries.

The Bauchi-based side travel to Yenagoa seeking a result that could boost their survival hopes as the season enters its final stretch.
