Niger Tornadoes slipped to a narrow 1–0 defeat against Katsina United in their NPFL Matchday 33 fixture at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium on Sunday.
A cautious opening from both sides gradually gave way to a more competitive contest, with chances emerging midway through the first half. Terdoo Shimagande came closest to breaking the deadlock after beating his marker, only to be denied in a one-on-one by the Katsina goalkeeper.
The hosts offered limited attacking threat before the interval but returned with greater urgency after the restart. Their pressure told in the 65th minute when Elijah Akanni finished a well-worked move to secure the decisive goal.
Niger Tornadoes responded with attacking substitutions, introducing Tasiu Lawal, Akintunde Azeez and Rickson Mendos in search of an equaliser. Despite improved intent, clear chances remained scarce. Azeez had the best opening but failed to convert.
Technical Adviser Majin Mohammed said his side executed their defensive plan effectively in the first half but lost focus after the break.
He said the team’s organisation kept the hosts at bay early on, but a lapse in concentration proved costly. He added that missed chances prevented a recovery and stressed the need for greater efficiency in front of goal.
Majin said the team will regroup and shift attention to their next home fixture, where they aim to return to winning ways.
The result sees the Ikon Allah Boys drop to 13th while Katsina United stays 9th in the standings.
