The Nigeria Women Football League has announced Port Harcourt as the host city for the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals, marking the first time the season-ending playoffs will take place in the Rivers State capital.
The competition is scheduled to hold from June 5 to June 14, 2026 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, where six of Nigeria’s top women’s clubs will battle for the league title.
NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, said the decision reflects the league’s commitment to growing women’s football across the country.
“We are delighted to announce Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as host of the 2026 NWFL Premiership Super Six Finals,” Shabi said.
“The Rivers State Government has consistently demonstrated strong support for women’s football and successfully hosted our Annual General Assembly last October. We are excited to return with our flagship competition as part of our commitment to expanding elite women’s football across Nigeria.”
The tournament will feature a round-robin format involving the top three teams from Groups A and B of the regular season, with each side playing five matches over nine days.
Defending champions Bayelsa Queens will be joined by Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and debutants Abia Angels.
The NWFL Premiership has produced four different champions in the last five seasons. Rivers Angels won the title in 2021, Bayelsa Queens lifted the trophy in 2022 and 2025, Delta Queens emerged champions in 2023, while Edo Queens claimed the crown in 2024.
Shabi also called on participating clubs to maintain professionalism and comply with tournament regulations.
“The Super Six remains the pinnacle of the NWFL Premiership season, and we are confident the fans in Rivers State will create another memorable atmosphere for players, officials, partners, and supporters,” she added.
“We also urge all qualified clubs to adhere strictly to all competition regulations, schedules, and directives that will be communicated subsequently by the League.”
The winner of the Super Six will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B qualifiers for a place in the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League and potentially the 2027 FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
