Aliyu Baba delivered a sensational performance for Sporting Lagos, scoring a stunning hat-trick in a dramatic 3-3 draw against Solution FC in their final NNL25 group fixture on Sunday evening at the Awka Township Stadium. The electric forward was named Sports Light Hub NNL25 Man of the Match for his efforts, but his heroics were not enough to keep Sporting’s promotion hopes alive.
The “Noisy Lagosians” appeared to have sealed the win when Baba completed his hat-trick to give them a 3-2 lead in the fourth minute of added time. But in a heartbreaking twist, Sporting conceded again just a minute later, ending the match 3-3 and crushing their Super 8 playoff chances.
Since joining Sporting Lagos in the second half of the season, Baba has scored six goals, making an instant and impactful contribution to the team’s attack. His form has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign.
With Sporting Lagos now out of contention, the final Super 8 playoff slot from their group will be decided between Osun United and Calabar Rovers, both of whom still have a game in hand.
