Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi, has hailed the Super Eagles following their victory at the 2025 Unity Cup held in London.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles emerged champions of the invitational tournament on Friday, May 31, 2025, at the Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford, defeating the Reggae Boyz of Jamaica 5-4 on penalties after a thrilling 2-2 draw in regulation time.
Chief Iloenyosi, who was part of the Nigerian contingent in London, praised the team and head coach Eric Chelle for their dedication and commitment, describing the triumph as a morale booster ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“This is a big moment for the team under Coach Eric Chelle just four months into his tenure. The players showed heart and unity, and this victory will instill belief in our push for the World Cup,” Iloenyosi said in a statement from the Eagles’ base in London.
The BOT Chairman of the All Nigeria Football Players Union also applauded Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Mallam Ibrahim Musa Gusau, for his leadership and efforts to reposition Nigerian football.
“I must commend the NFF President for his passion and vision. He is a happy man today, and rightly so. This win reflects the progress we’re making under his watch,” Iloenyosi added.
Looking ahead, he revealed that the team has now shifted its focus to their upcoming international friendly against Russia, stressing the importance of maintaining momentum.
He also urged Nigerians to rally behind Coach Chelle and the team, emphasizing the role of unity and support in building a strong national side capable of winning trophies.
In his remarks, Chief Iloenyosi expressed appreciation to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, for his continued support of football development in the state. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to grassroots football and talent development in Anambra.
“We are focused on capacity-building initiatives that will take Anambra football to the next level,” he assured.
The Super Eagles' Unity Cup triumph marks the first silverware under Eric Chelle and sets a promising tone as the team eyes greater achievements on the international stage.
