Enyimba International Football Club has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Sir Emmanuel Udoh KSJ, Team Manager of Akwa United FC and a celebrated figure in Nigerian football.
In a statement released by Enyimba Chairman, Ambassador Kanu 'Papilo' Nwankwo, the club extended its condolences to Akwa United and the bereaved family, describing Sir Udoh’s death as a monumental loss to the Nigerian football community.
“On behalf of the entire Enyimba family — the management, technical crew, players, and supporters — I extend our profound sympathies to Akwa United FC and the bereaved family of Sir Emmanuel Udoh,” said Nwankwo. “His passing is a tremendous loss, not just to Akwa United but to the whole of Nigerian football. He was a true servant of the game.”
Nicknamed “Bullet” in his playing days, Sir Udoh was known for his fearless defending as a right-back for Bendel Insurance FC. His exceptional performances earned him a place in the Nigerian national team, where he was admired for his discipline and commitment.
Following his retirement, Udoh transitioned into football management, where he left an indelible mark. As Team Manager of Akwa United, he played a key role in the club’s rise to prominence, guiding them to a Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title and the Aiteo Federation Cup.
“Sir Udoh’s legacy is not only in the trophies he helped deliver but in the lives he touched, the players he mentored, and the enduring professionalism he brought to Nigerian football,” Nwankwo added. “He was a colleague, a legend, and most importantly, a brother in the beautiful game.”
Enyimba FC joins the Nigerian football family in mourning the loss of a true icon whose contributions spanned generations.
Sir Emmanuel Udoh’s legacy will continue to inspire, and his memory will remain a cornerstone of Nigerian football history.
