In a major development for women's football in the Southeast, Imo Striker Queens have officially relocated from Owerri to Awka, Anambra State.
According to Infonews.com.ng, the club has concluded plans to operate fully as an Anambra State-based team, with immediate effect. The move positions the club to prosecute their campaign in the 2025 NWFL Championship from their new home base in Awka.
Speaking exclusively to Infonews.com.ng, the club’s President and CEO, Prince Chidi, confirmed the development, stating that all is in place for the team’s relocation. According to him, the ultimate goal is to secure promotion to the NWFL Premiership and, in turn, deliver elite-level women's football to the people of Anambra.
Though the club president did not disclose the exact reasons for the relocation, the decision was taken to facilitate the club's continued growth and development.
Prince Chidi also revealed that all necessary formalities have been concluded with the Anambra State Football Association. He praised the leadership of the FA under Chairman Chikelue Iloanyosi, popularly known as “General,” for embracing the club’s arrival and pledging full support as they gear up for the new season.
This development comes months after First Mahi Babes FC of Abajah, Imo State, also relocated—this time to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State—where they went on to win the 2025 Ebonyi State FA Cup and reached the Round of 16 in the Women’s FA Cup before bowing out to Rivers Angels.
With this relocation, Anambra football fans can now look forward to seeing top-level women’s football in their backyard, as Imo Striker Queens embark on their push for NWFL Premiership status.
