Rivers United Begin Pre-Season Training Ahead of CAF Champions League Campaign

Rivers United Football Club have officially begun preparations for the upcoming football season, as the Port Harcourt-based side look to build on their strong performance in the 2024/2025 campaign.

Led by newly appointed Technical Manager Finidi George, the team held their first full training session on Monday at the main bowl of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Around 25 players were in attendance as the squad resumed activities after the off-season break.

The technical crew and support staff welcomed the players back, urging them to mentally prepare for the challenges ahead. Coach Finidi, addressing the team, said: “I welcome you back from the off-season break. Now it's time to get ourselves ready for the task ahead of time. Welcome back.”

Rivers United secured a second-place finish in the just-concluded Nigeria Premier Football League season, earning them a spot in next season’s CAF Champions League. Although the draw for the competition is yet to be conducted, the club is wasting no time in getting ready for their continental opponents.

The first phase of training has now commenced, involving both players and officials, as the team look to sharpen their tactics and fitness. With the new NPFL season set to kick off in August, Rivers United are aiming to make a strong impact both domestically and on the African stage.
