El-Kanemi Warriors FC Maiduguri secured a 2-0 win over Karimo FC in a fiercely contested friendly match on Wednesday evening, 16 July 2025, at the El-Kanemi Warriors Stadium in Maiduguri.
The fixture formed part of the club’s ongoing preparations for the 2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. Head coach Kabiru Dogo fielded a blend of experienced players and new prospects currently undergoing screening.
Karimo FC, the reigning champions of the Borno State League, presented a youthful and determined side that held firm in the first half. Despite El-Kanemi’s dominance, Karimo’s goalkeeper delivered a string of impressive saves to deny clear-cut chances from Al’amin and Samaila Bello, keeping the scores level at the break.

The second half saw multiple substitutions, with El-Kanemi introducing Rislanu Ismail, Ba Kaka, and other trialists. The breakthrough came in the 59th minute when Nasara fired a powerful effort past the Karimo shot-stopper to put the hosts ahead.

Karimo FC responded with tactical changes, including the introduction of Bitrus and their skilful number 10, which momentarily shifted the balance. However, El-Kanemi restored control, and in the 74th minute, a deflected shot from Abdulaziz fell kindly for an El-Kanemi striker, who finished calmly to seal the victory.
Supporters turned out in numbers and applauded the performance, showing appreciation for the tactical improvements under Coach Dogo.
