FIFA U17 World Cup-winning coach, Emmanuel Amunike, has praised the Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament for its quality and organisation after Heartland FC secured a comfortable 3–0 win over Inter Aba FC.
The former Super Eagles star and current Heartland FC Technical Manager expressed his satisfaction following the first match of day three in the ongoing seventh edition of the competition.
First-half goals from Charles Emmanuel in the 32nd minute and a brace from Daniel Ekpo in the 40th and 48th minutes gave Heartland their first victory of the campaign.
Speaking after the game, Amunike commended tournament sponsor Ifeanyi Ekwueme for the initiative, highlighting its importance in team preparation.
"The Tico/Select tournament gives us the opportunity to properly assess our new signings and help them integrate into the squad," said Amuneke, who famously guided Nigeria’s U17 team to FIFA World Cup glory in 2015.
Heartland FC missed their opening game due to the burial of their late supporter, Princess Egwunwoke, and could not play their second fixture against Enyimba due to a heavy downpour. They are scheduled to face Excellent FC on Tuesday at 2pm.
