Bayelsa Queens Begin WAFU B Campaign with Victory



Bayelsa Queens FC, popularly known as the Prosperity Girls, kicked off their 5th CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Ghana’s Police Ladies FC on Sunday at the Stade Charles Konan Banny Stadium, Yamoussoukro.

The Ghanaians dominated the opening ten minutes, but Bayelsa Queens settled quickly and broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Shakirat Moshood. They maintained their lead to end the first half 1-0.

In the second half, Bayelsa Queens increased the pressure and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute when Emem Essien found the net. Six minutes later, Mary Berko pulled one back for Police Ladies, but the Prosperity Girls held firm to secure all three points.

Moshood’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match award.

Head coach Whyte Ogbonda praised his side’s resilience, saying the victory has boosted their confidence ahead of the next game.

In the other Group B fixture, Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic edged ASKO FC of Togo 1-0.

Bayelsa Queens will face ASKO FC of Togo on Wednesday, 27 August 2025, and a win will guarantee their place in the semi-finals.
