Daniel Paul was the hero once more for KMK Foundation Academy, scoring the decisive goal that earned his side a second straight win at the ongoing 7th Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Preseason Tournament.
In a tightly contested matchday two opener against Inter Aba FC on Sunday, it was Paul’s 79th-minute strike that broke the deadlock and secured a vital 1-0 win for the Uyo-based academy.
The young forward showed great composure to convert the chance and continue his fine form in the tournament. His performance drew praise from Coach Prince Usen Ebuk, who highlighted Paul's growing influence in the squad.
“Daniel has been outstanding for us. His work rate and determination are top-class, and he stepped up again when it mattered,” said Coach Ebuk.
The coach credited the team's strong mentality and discipline for their continued success, adding that Sunday's match was always going to be challenging after the exertions of the opening day.
He also appreciated the tournament organisers and the sole sponsor, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, for providing a platform for young players like Daniel Paul to shine. “It’s a well-structured tournament. Our aim is to get to the final and continue developing our game,” Ebuk added.
Despite Inter Aba suffering back-to-back defeats, their coach Bright Mbuko saw improvements in his side. “We conceded five goals yesterday but only one today. We’re getting better,” he said.
KMK Foundation Academy now top the group with six points and will face newly promoted NPFL side Kun Khalifat FC in their next fixture on Monday at 4pm. All eyes will again be on Daniel Paul to see if he can deliver for a third time.
