Niger Tornadoes head coach, Majin Mohammed, has praised his side's resilience following a 3-2 victory over City Rollers FC of Nasarawa State in their opening match of the Gusau-Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament at the Lafia City Stadium.
The Ikon Allah Boys came from behind after conceding an early goal that momentarily unsettled the squad. However, a composed response saw the team level before the break, before pushing on for the win in the second half.
Speaking after the match, Coach Mohammed expressed his satisfaction with the team's fighting spirit and underlined the importance of using the tournament to prepare for the upcoming NPFL season.
"We are here to prepare ourselves for the NPFL season, and winning this tournament would be a great way to crown our preparations," he said. "I don't want to promise anything, but we're focused on building momentum and fine-tuning our performance."
The match was marked by goals from Joseph Godstime, Dalhatu Abdulaziz, and Shimagande Terdoo, which secured the win for Tornadoes. City Rollers' Babatunde Simon scored both goals for his side but it was not enough to stop the NPFL team from taking all three points.
Coach Mohammed also commented on the squad changes, noting that the team had welcomed new players following the departure of several individuals at the end of last season.
"It is natural when the season ends some players move to another club then you bring in some to also fortify your team, so those are the changes you are seeing," he explained.
Niger Tornadoes will continue their campaign in the Gusau-Ahlan Cup as they aim to sharpen their form ahead of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season.
