LASUED Clinch Gold at Inaugural Lagos Campus Beach Soccer Tournament

It was a thrilling and lively Saturday on 26 July as football fans gathered in large numbers at Atican Beach, Lekki, to witness the debut edition of the Lagos Campus Beach Soccer 2025.

After hours of fierce competition on the sun-drenched sands and amid lively music, Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) claimed the gold medal, having accumulated the most points across all matches.

LASUED kicked off their campaign with a narrow 1–0 victory over Lagos City Polytechnic and later held the University of Lagos (UNILAG) to a goalless draw in a tense final match.

Despite a spirited performance throughout the tournament, UNILAG’s hopes of winning the title were dashed after back-to-back draws against LASUED and Lagos City Polytechnic. The Akoka-based side had to settle for the silver medal.

Lagos City Polytechnic finished third, marking their best performance yet in a campus-level sporting event.

The tournament was declared open by Mr Adebanji Atewogboye, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Sanwo-Olu on Grassroots Sports Development. He reaffirmed the state government's commitment to improving and expanding future editions of the tournament.

Organised by the Lagos State Government in partnership with BrandEscort Communications, the Lagos Campus Beach Soccer tournament brings together tertiary institutions across the state to celebrate youth sports and football talent.

As the inaugural edition, organisers have revealed plans to widen the scope in 2026 by inviting institutions from other states to participate.

The tournament aims to identify and showcase emerging football talents from higher institutions within and beyond Lagos.
