Wikki Tourists FC kicked off their 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a hard-fought 1–0 win against Plateau United at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, on Sunday.
The decisive moment came in the 41st minute when new signing Louis Dadong converted a penalty, marking his first official goal for the club. The strike was enough to secure all three points for the Bauchi-based side, celebrating their return to the NPFL after gaining promotion.
Wikki Tourists fielded several new signings who impressed with energy and discipline. Despite creating more chances, they failed to extend their lead. Head Coach Abdu Maikaba praised his players for their efforts, expressing optimism about the season ahead. Stand-in captain Yusuf Mohammed also thanked supporters, calling for their continued backing.
Plateau United, known as the Peace Boys, put up a spirited performance but failed to find an equaliser. Their attack showed flashes of promise, particularly through wing play by Mafeng Pam and Kalu Samuel, while goalkeeper Amah made key saves to keep them in the contest.
The game’s intensity was reflected in the statistics: both sides received a yellow card, and Wikki led on corner kicks 6–3. Plateau United, however, won more free kicks, earning 26 to Wikki’s 18, showing their strong fight in midfield.
Wikki Tourists will next travel to Kano to face Kano Pillars, while Plateau United will welcome Katsina United to Jos on Sunday as they look to regroup as the season progresses.
