Enyimba Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, has applauded his players for their resilience following a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Niger Tornadoes in a tightly contested NPFL Matchday 2 fixture at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba on Sunday.
A towering fifth-minute header from new signing Joseph Abiodun secured the first win of the 2025/26 season for the nine-time league champions, sending the Aba fans into celebration.
Speaking after the match, Eguma praised his players for showing character and described the win as a confidence boost that will propel the team to greater performances this season.
“The boys showed character today, and I am proud of their bravery,” Eguma said. “Some of them, especially those making their first outing, were naturally a bit jittery, but they gave everything. With more games, they will certainly grow in confidence and deliver even better performances.”
The coach, however, expressed concern over his team’s inability to convert several scoring chances that could have widened the margin. He assured supporters that his technical crew is working to sharpen the squad’s finishing.
“We created so many scoring opportunities but didn’t take them. That’s one area we must improve on. The important thing, however, is that we secured all three points. This win is for our fans who turned out massively. We promise them more exciting results as the season unfolds,” he added.
Niger Tornadoes coach, Majin Mohammed, admitted that his side suffered from missed chances and fatigue after their long trip from Minna to Aba.
Enyimba will next face Nasarawa United in a Matchday 3 clash on Sunday, a game Eguma believes will further test his side’s hunger for success.
