Rangers International head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has admitted that a tactical gamble cost his side in their 2-0 defeat to Warri Wolves in Ozoro on Sunday.
Speaking after the game, Ilechukwu revealed that his decision to push more men forward in search of an equaliser left his midfield exposed.
“It wasn't the result we wanted,” he said. “When we were a goal down, we took the risk by reducing the numbers in midfield and increasing in attack to look for a goal, and that resulted in conceding the second goal.”
Warri Wolves, who have now recorded two wins in two games this season, opened the scoring through Godwin Oham in first-half stoppage time before Prince Ebhohon doubled the advantage in the 77th minute.
For Rangers, the defeat follows their opening-day draw, leaving the Enugu side still searching for their first win of the campaign.
