Wikki Tourists head coach Abdul Maikaba praised his team’s discipline and resilience after they battled to a 1-1 draw against Kano Pillars in a tense NPFL Match Day 2 encounter at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
The visitors stunned the home crowd in the 12th minute when Ahmed Abubakar Lamido calmly finished from a Louis Dadong assist. However, a defensive lapse allowed Pillars to equalise in first-half stoppage time.
Despite sustained pressure from the hosts in the second half, Wikki’s compact defensive shape and sharp counter-attacks ensured they left Kano with a valuable away point.
Speaking after the match, Maikaba commended his players for executing the game plan effectively.
“We knew coming to Kano would be a test of our character. I’m proud of the boys for staying organised and showing resilience,” Maikaba said. “We scored early, and though we couldn’t hold the lead until the break, the point away from home is very valuable.”
Wikki Tourists will now shift their focus to their Match Day 3 fixture at home against Abia Warriors, looking to build on this performance and secure their first win of the 2025/26 NPFL season.
